Jake Rovenstine with Charley, Burley and Elvin this picture taken just before they boarded a migrant car to go to Campo, Colorado, 1914?he horse died in a rail accident, bees got loose and caused havoc.  They got insurance money that paid them well for the damages.

Many from SE Kansas moved to SE Colorado, one of which was a life long family friend, H.K. Busby.  Obviously they were under the impression they would become rich quick and be famous.  The Rovenstines who went to Colorado went broke in the Dirty Thirties.

Mary Ann Sheets, died 1 month after childbirth in 1887, she was 37 years old. The infant girl we never knew where she grew up.  The father once tried to give away the 3 boys and most likely gave her up for adoption.  Her father signed up in the Civil War and fought on the Union side, engaging in battles at Wilson Creek, south of Springfield Mo.  We have reason to believe she was born in Virginia.

Jacob S was born in Indiana in 1846.  He grieved when his brother Albert Simeon died in the Civil War, Bowling Green Kentucky.  He was a beekeeper and may have come to SE Kansas as a cook, making food for the railway workers that were laying track.

Census records suggest he lived with John Henry Sheets as a hired hand.  For sure he was able to smooth talk the farmer John H. Sheets daughter to become his wife.
